WRITER CRUSH WEDNESDAY 1.0: GEME

Hiii FABfam! While we relish this voyage, it is important to celebrate little growth in our community. We officially have readers in about 15 countries of the world– five continents globally!!! ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰THANK YOUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stick around (or glue around, whatever adheres enough ๐Ÿ˜‚)

In light of switching things up around here, I’m starting a new segment called WRITER CRUSH WEDNESDAY. (No no not your regular, peasant women crushes!)

My very first WCW is NONYALIM UCHECHUKWUGEME, my friend and coursemate. When I thought about creating this segment, she immediately came to mind. She’s simply amazing and works magic with the pen! You absolutely need to check out her poems on her IG (@terribledancer). We’ve both been on the LSS Blog Team and most recently, our write-ups were featured on the LEX OBSRRVER (the official publication of the Law Students’ Society). Her knowledge is contagious and above all, she’s a great friend. Meet Geme!โค๏ธ

INTERVIEW SESSION

How would you describe yourself?
G: I am a 17year old creative devil.

When did you start writing?
G: I started writing when I was 8, but I never took it seriously.

I know you do say you look up to me (I’m flattered) but I actually draw motivation from you. What inspires your style of writing?
G: Anything inspires me, to be honest. I try as much as possible to be very emphatic when writing.

Have you ever gotten to a breaking point where you feel you’re not good enough a writer?
G: Yes, a lot of times. But, I then realise that there are different forms of writing. I tell my stories differently and they tell theirs differently.

Do you have any other favourite pastime activities?
G: I like drawing and making voice records and videosโ€ฆ It seems I am highly interested in mass media and communication.

What’s your favourite article/poem you’ve ever written?
G: Slavery. It is a poem.

Are you a feminist?
G: I am a Feminist, but do not mistake that for a Nigerian Radical feminist.

What are you most passionate about?
G: I am passionate about everything I do.

We’ve had several discussions about the various forms of injustice women face. What do you think about gender equality/equity?
G: We should keep fighting.

Any goals/resolution for 2020?
G: Hmm, my resolution is the same as that of last year and every year. I want to become a better version of myself.

Totally unrelated but vanilla or chocolate?
G: Vanilla, anyday!

Stay tuned for the next blog post. Do have a blissful Christmas celebration and stay safe out there! โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ
